Real Madrid pay 227,000 euros Because of Federico Valverde

Why did Valverde's participation against PSG cost money?

The participation of Federico Valverde, a Real Madrid player, against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League cost Real Madrid 227,000 euros.

The president of The Uruguayan club Peñarol, Marcelo Areco, said in remarks quoted by the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" that his team received 227 thousand euros from Real Madrid after Valverde reached 20 games with the royal club.

He explained that in the contract to sell the player in 2015, Peñarol required 227 thousand euros for the first 20 games in which Valverde and Real Madrid participated and to be on the pitch for at least 45 minutes.

Areco confirmed that the deal amounted to 3.6 million euros with an additional €1 million in incentives for a total of €4.6 million. Peñarol will receive an additional €227,000 when Valverde takes part in another 20 matches with the Royals.

It is worth mentioning that Real Madrid loaned the player for a season to Deportivo de La Coruña but the latter fell to the second division to return Valverde to Real Madrid to find his chance with the first team.

Real Madrid plans to award the player a contract that expires in 2025 with a penalty clause of up to €750 million.
