The strange reason why Eden Hazard refused to leave Chelsea for Bayern Munich

The Real Madrid winger was wanted by some Europe's biggest teams during his seven-year Stamford Bridge stint but he ruled out a move to the Bundesliga giants

Eden Hazard dismissed Bayern Munich 's attempts to sign him from Chelsea, purely because he didn't want to play within the same league as his brother Thorsen.

Hazard eventually departed Stamford Bridge last summer to play under his hero Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid, bringing the curtain down on one among the longest-running transfer sagas in football.

The Belgium international's first season at Los Blancos hasn't exactly gone to plan, however.

Injuries combined with the inevitable adjustment to a new league and team-mates have restricted Hazard to only 13 appearances and one goal altogether competitions thus far.

But the winger has no regrets, certainly about not joining Bayern Munich where he feared his younger brother's career may need to be suffered as a result.

Then Hazard, two years his brother's junior, is playing for Borussia Dortmund after signing from Borussia Monchengladbach in May for £22m.

"Eden ruled it out," Rob Green, who was reserve goalkeeper at Chelsea last season, told The Athletic.

"He was like 'I'm not going there because my brother Thorgan is playing in Germany. it might become Eden Hazard and his brother'.

"He was saying that his brother is often referred to as Thorgan Hazard there instead of only be mentioned as Eden Hazard's brother.

"That could encounter as slightly of arrogance but it had been a magnanimous thing to try to to."

Hazard senior, meanwhile, has been ruled out of playing within the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia on January 8 after a minor setback in his return from injury.

He injured his right ankle last month, with the Super Cup originally being the target for him to make his return.

But that plan has now gone out of the window as Bernabeu chiefs have made it clear that they are doing not want to require any risks with Hazard.

Zidane is going to be hoping that Hazard is going to be back fit the mouth-watering Champions League clash with Manchester City on February 26.
