The Chelsea captain, César Azpilicueta, confirmed that he is in pain at seeing his former team-mate Eden Hazard, unable to continue to compete with Real Madrid at the same level as Chelsea.

Azpilicueta said: "Hazard is a great friend of mine and of course it pains me to see him like this, because he can't show his potential, especially when he was here at Chelsea, he barely missed a game. He was a very regular player and despite the blows, he was subjected to, he was always available to play."

"Seeing that he can't maintain this continuity hurts too," the Spanish defender said. I hope without a doubt that this will pass as soon as possible."

The Belgian's persistent injuries did not allow him to prove his performance with Chelsea, who left him in the summer of 2019 to play for Real Madrid for 100 million euros.

"His dream was to play for Real Madrid and he wants to show his ability to do so," said the Chelsea captain.

The Belgian winger suffered a muscle injury, keeping him out of the competition for at least a month, and as such, he will not be able to play for Real Madrid against Atalanta on Wednesday with the champions league final.

The 30-year-old has made 13 appearances for Real Madrid this season, scoring three goals.
