Real Madrid continued to chase their neighbors Atlético Madrid, who beat Valencia 2-0 on Sunday night in the 23rd round of La Liga.

The royal club achieved its third consecutive victory, raising its tally to 49 points in second place behind the leader Atlético (54 points) who played 21 games, and now is three points ahead of their rival Barcelona, who played 22 games.

French striker Karim Benzema opened the scoring in the 12th minute and German Toni Kroos added the second goal in the 42nd minute.

In the end, Real Madrid provided a great result over the course of the 90 minutes in which the players regained confidence in themselves as well as in their coach Zinedine Zidane, a week before returning to the Champions League to face Atalanta in the first leg of the round of 16.

With this win, Real Madrid continues to march behind leaders Atlético Madrid, reaching 49th place in second place with five points and two fewer games for Atlético.

Valencia, on the other hand, has broken their lead this season, freezing their tally from 24th place in 12th place, not far from the relegation zone, with only three points left.
