Led by Real Sociedad, Real narrowly escaped defeat thanks to a goal from the returning Vinicius Jr.

Real Madrid was close on Monday to concede their fifth defeat of the season. Against Real Sociedad, Modric and his team-mates were not ridiculous. But they were noticed by a glaring lack of efficiency in front and it almost proved fatal to them. Vinicius Jr, who was substituted as a substitute, managed to snatch the tie in the 88th by converting a Lucas Vazquez delivery from a half-volley. The minimum is assured and the return of the crisis averted.

Real's sterile dominance

In this game, the Merengue mostly missed the cut in the first half. Incisive, they struck towards goal 11 times in the first 45 minutes, but none of his attempts were framed. In the absence of Karim Benzema, still injured, the Spanish champions have disappointed again offensively.

There was a big scare on the goals of Real Sociedad (22nd), with successive opportunities from Mariano and Vazquez, but the first failed on the crossbar and the second, deflected, missed. This is the 16th time this season that the Merengue has touched wood. In the major European leagues, only PSG and Lyon were more unlucky (19).

Don't miss

Modric (19th) and Kroos (35th) also tried their luck in the midst of this period of Merengue domination. No result. Unreverted opportunities that visitors logically ended up regretting.

Vinicius Jr saves the merengue

On the way back from the locker room, and after another mini-alert signed Casemiro (63rd), the Madrilènes gave way behind. On what was almost the first opportunity of the opponent, they were surprised. Forgotten at the second post, Portu had risen to pick an excellent cross from Nacho Monreal (55') and his recovery ended up at the bottom. She even failed in the skylight guarded by Thibaut Courtois.

After this opening of the score, Real tried to react but it was a relatively timid reaction. Zidane's changes, with the incorporations of Rodrygo, Vinicius Jr, and Valverde, were slow to bear fruit. Casemiro (75') and Rodrigo's (84') too-crossed header were noted for the alerts. Fortunately, there was this blow of The paw of Vincius Jr for Real to leave with a point.

In the end, Real had to get the draw. Given the scenario, it is a good operation, but from an accounting point of view it is a damaging result in the title race since the gap on Atlético Madrid remains five points, and with one more game played. There were undoubtedly much better ways to prepare for next weekend's derby against the Matelassiers.
