Real Madrid, six starts for two stars

Real Madrid is putting six stars up for sale to fund transfers for Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé.

Real Madrid is preparing to sell six superstars this summer to raise funds for a sensational offer for forwards Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé.

The Spanish champions, renowned for founding the Galacticos squad, have been low-key on the transfer front in recent years (aside from the 2019 signing of Eden Hazard for more than € 100m).

But to sign both Borussia Dortmund star Haaland and PSG ace Mbappé, the Merengue leaders must massively reduce their current payroll and empty staff.

According to Mundo Deportivo, six current Real players are in the process of leaving. Unsurprisingly, the top two names on the list are the club's top two earners: Hazard - who has struggled with multiple injuries over the past two years - and Gareth Bale, currently on loan at Tottenham.

The four other internationals who will be leaving are Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane, Isco, and Marcelo.

Wiping out so many established players would undoubtedly free up money for salaries. However, that would mean that Los Blancos would lose three experienced defenders while signing two forwards. Ramos disagrees with the club over the terms of a new contract and the 34-year-old could leave this summer.

French center-back Varane has also been linked with a departure from Madrid. Signing both Haaland, 20, and World Cup winner Mbappé, 22, - widely regarded as football's best rising stars - may seem ridiculously ambitious. But it could probably be done. Haaland will be available for £ 65million when his release clause goes into effect, but he is expected to be embroiled in a bidding war this summer. Real are one of the few clubs that can afford it.
